Packing out

The movers took all of our earthly belongings away today to be shipped to Saudi Arabia (we'll probably receive them in five or six months...). There were actually several more lift vans than these; this was just the first trip. I have moved house 13 times since my husband has been in the Foreign Service, and I still am not used to arriving at a new post, establishing a household and living there for three years -- making it our home -- only to have to pack up, sever all ties and move on to the next place. As I mentioned before, this is the hardest move I have ever had, perhaps because we lived in such a great place with such wonderful people.

Our household staff, who have been like family for the past three years, gave my husband and I T-shirts with the GPS coordinates of our home here printed on them. It was such a sweet thing to do, and naturally I started crying. I will never make it through the final goodbyes on Friday when we leave for the airport.

Great documentary of your new adventure. v

Such a sad picture. I just cannot imagine moving so many times. Our last move was difficult and I could not face another. I don't know how Foreign Service people can do it. All the best.

Fine documentary image, Helen. Moving is challenging in so many ways. Keep your eye at the viewfinder and your finger on the shutter button.

LOL about when you'll receive your stuff :-) Your PBase friends move with you. I'd cry too leaving the staff after these years...
Carol Rollins29-Aug-2013 13:22
You bring tears to my eyes just thinking of having to do this. At least you'll take all
your PBase friends who love you with you. Stay on the path, Helen, and we'll see
you in Saudi Arabia.

Helen, it must be really rough moving so much. I know that you will make new friends in Saudi Arabia. You photos are like a travelogue. You have taken so many of us to some interesting sites. We are hoping that you will do the same once you get settled. Great photo. Until you get to posting again, see you soon.

that's a clever idea...the moving van seems to carry crates, for the further voyages of your goods...a vagabond existence must have an upside too...one can imagine all the adventures..

I read this with a lump in my throat. I am not surprised you are sad to be leaving such a beautiful home and city, and, of course, those people who have become friends.
