The palace buildings are among the oldest in Hungary. St. Stephen was baptized here in 1000, and from 1256 the palace served as the home of Esztergom's archbishops. It was sacked by the Ottoman Turks, but much of it remains today as a castle museum. To the left is the enormous Esztergom Basilica.
