Hole in the ceiling, for now

The skylight turned out to be more complicated than expected. First they discovered a beam that was holding up the roof right where they wanted to put the skylight, so direction had to be changed (width-wise instead of length-wise). Then there were A/C ducts in the way, but those got moved. Now we're discussing what to do about lighting; my contractor wanted to put recessed lighting along the walls, but I prefer antique wall sconces so as to retain a bit of the character of this old house. We'll see who wins tomorrow.(The contractor is excellent but knows what he wants to do, and this kind of thing often happens with us.)

You have a start now. I'd vote for the wall sconces even if the contractor puts recessed lighting.
