Palau Güell was Antoni Gaudí’s first major work in Barcelona’s city center. His patron, Eusebi Güell, said that even though Gaudí was at that point an inexperienced architect, there would be no limit to the budget at his disposal, which he obviously took advantage of. A disproportionately grand building on a small plot in a narrow street, Palau Güell, although austere on its exterior, is a fabulous creation in its interior. It was completed in 1889 and has recently been renovated.
