finish - 1st coat

Using a wipe-on mixture of spar varnish and Danish oil. Still looks very dull as the bare wood
just sucks it up. This will be rubbed with a 220 grit pad between coats. By the 4th application
or so things should start to build nicely and display a bit of that 3D look. And as the wood stops
sucking up finish it will dry a little faster too... giving me time to get more than one coat per
night. I'll let this first one settle in overnight. It's already late and a bit muggy tonite anyway.

There's not as much color difference between the cherry and oak as I expected there might be.

Well, now that you've practiced, we could take these! Oh never mind, I can't afford the shipping! Looking fabulous Dave!

When I was painting, I had several "go-to" concoctions that would act as mediums for the oil paint. I used several different types of varnishes, damar being my favorite. But I've never heard of spar. Time to fire up Google! They look beautiful, Dave! How exciting!!
