end of an era

view map

After 29 years of surviving eruptions and lava flows, the last home in the Royal Gardens Subdivsion
was finally claimed by Madam Pele last week Friday (02 Mar 12). Jack Thompson's house is no more.
This photo of mine was taken on a helicopter tour flight in 2010. Compare the flow limits in this
photo with those on Leigh Hilbert's excellent web page -Here-. Royal Gardens was originally built with
1,500 lots. In 1983 when the Puu O'o vent began its current eruptive phase, there were 75 houses built.
Jack's was the last one to be lost.

La nature reprend ses droit tout doucement.C'est une excellente image ou l'on se rend bien compte du désastre.

You just can't fool Mother Nature! What a shame Dave, but the guy was able to be there for 40 years!
