Fife images of a Great Egret catching, then swallowing a small (young?)Longnose Gar, a long slender fish that I have never seen before and of which I wasn't aware that it resided in our waters. Thanks to Linda "hayl" for help with the ID and for providing a link that indicated that indeed it has been known to reside in The Ottawa River.

Note added Sept 23, 2014: I just went through my postings for 2013 and noted one where a Pied-billed Grebe had caught, what seems to be, a Longnose Gar. At that time I wasn't sure what type of fish it was and just called it a large fish. See http://www.pbase.com/hankvv/image/151816081
