20120902 015 SERIES - Ambush Bug.jpg

My Backyard

Three images, three views of an Ambush Bug on a Zinnia flower. Ambush Bugs are very small, only about 5 -10 mm long. They reportedly routinely capture prey ten or more times their own size after lying in wait for prey relying on their superb camouflage and their raptorial forelegs. (Wikipedia)

Top image: Side view.

Top view.

Scary, creepy, alien-like front view.

other sizes: small medium original auto

It looks like some creatures from the movies! Nice shots notwithstanding the dof challenge.

One of my favourite bugs. They are so peculiar looking, but endearing for that. Lovely shots!
