A family of Herring Gulls nesting on the cliffs on the far shore of lake Quidi Vidi, a small lake in the middle of St John's in a neighbourhood with the same name. Quidi Vidi is also the home of the largest micro brewery in Newfoundland appropriately named The Quidi Vidi Brewing Co. We took a tour of the brewery and enjoyed the quaint village which in times past was a fishing village.

Whilst in St John's, we experienced pleasant hospitality/friendliness on our very first day, whilst shopping in a small variety store were we went to buy a loaf of sliced bread and some jams etc for making light lunch-time sandwiches . However, the store stocked only unsliced homemade breads. When my wife inquired if they had a slicer, the lady at the cash told her that they did not. My wife was about to put the loaf back on the shelf when an other worker approached and said that she would hand-slice it for us. She took the loaf to the back and a couple of minutes later we had our nicely sliced home-made bread.
