20110630 - 2 196 SERIES - Black-legged Kittiwakes HP.jpg

Cape St Mary's Ecological Reserve, NL

Three images of the Black-legged Kittiwakes nesting on the verticle cliffs and rock ledges.

Top Image: A small group of Kittiwakes. Note, the Kittiwakes seem to be more distributed in small groups than are the Gannets and the Murres which seem to congregate in very large groups..

Two Kittiwakes.

One Kittiwake checking out her eggs. Note this unit comes complete with vegetable garden.

Great series from Cape St. Mary's, Hank. You must have been on the lowest ledge to shoot these. I was too chicken to go down there.

One's "corner of the world" seems appropriate to describe these "units", which look to be always on the verge of ruin and disaster for the nesters. V

Proof that, "if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space."
