Recently I posted a number of images and SERIES of White-tailed Bucks. Presently I posted three images of Does and Fawns. Click: "NEXT", "NEXT" to see the other two images.
In the above image, this threesome (mother and two young) came peeking from the edge of the woods to see what these two two-legged photographers were up to, or perhaps to see if they had brought any grub for them. The young deer in particular are quite tame and will approach people for handouts and nibbles of carrots, apples, corn etc.. Some of the mature Does will also come quite close to people; however the Bucks usually stay at considerable distance until people have moved away at which time they move in and chase away the young and the females.
There are probably over 20 White-tailed Deer in this one area of protected lands or park which constitutes only a very small part of a protected Greenbelt located around the original City of Ottawa, our Capital. We are most fortunate to have this large Greenbelt which is now within our City limits as the City has spread out beyond the protected Greenbelt area. There are numerous parks, walking trails, bike trails, ski trails, swamps, ponds and forests throughout this Greenbelt, all maintained by The National Capital Commission.
