Two images of Redhead Ducks. Last year I photographed my first Redhead, a male. A few days ago fellow Pbaser (witsend) spotted three migrating Redheads in a nearby park/pond. To my knowledge, no Redheads have been spotted there over the past five-six years. The next day there were only two and today, there was only one Redhead left. Apparently the others had continued their migration south.
The Redheads shown in the these two images are, in my opinion a male and a female. In the top image, the one yapping is probably the male; whereas the other one is either a female or a juvenile. The male has a yellow eye; whereas, the other has a more dark brownish eye. I checked several references and did not find any comments w.r.t. the difference in the eyes of male/female or adult/juvenile. Any comments are welcomed.
