An other lucky catch for September 3rd. (See also http://www.pbase.com/image/128118796 )
Shortly after I had shot the Peregrine Falcon from up close, along came a Belted Kingfisher. It flew over, then perched in a small dead tree not far from where I was positioned. There was, however, one problem. I couldn't get a clear shot of the head without either lowering my tripod or moving closer to the Kingfisher. There was a branch in the way right across the middle of the Kingfisher's head. Both options normally would have caused the Kingfisher to fly off in a hurry.
I decided to carefully, but quickly, move closer. I had to move twice before the branch just skimmed the top of the Kingfisher's head. (see bottom image). I couldn't believe my good fortune, the Kingfisher stayed put and I managed about 20 quick shots before the camera noise scared it away.
Two Images:
Top Image: The offending branch cloned out of the picture (Image #312. Note I had to give the Kingfisher an ever so slight haircut)
Image # 315, with the offending branch left in place, just grazing the top of the head. An other few feet closer and I would have cleared it.
