20100617 095 Screech Owl SERIES.jpg

Ottawa

Three images of Screech Owls taken at dusk in very low-light conditions. Not something I would recommend for the faint of heart to try. They can see you long before you spot them. When defending territory or their young, they won't hesitate to dive-bomb you. Reportedly, eyes have been lost by photographers in the past trying to photograph small Owls at dusk. I had a close call as one flew right past my face, its wing tip just glancing off my nose. Others have reported similar experience.

Another wonderful series, but I have one word of advice: safety glasses. No, make that two words: full face shield and helmet. I can never find these things even though they are all around, and answer my calls. Maybe, that is a good thing.

Great work, Hank. I heard of a great horned owl that almost took off someone's scalp at night. Three terrific images.

Well rewarded for bravery in wandering into their domain of the night with their flesh-tearing weapons' potential. All should heed your words. V!
