Drawing of mount of an interlace beast in the eleventh century English Urnes style, Yorkshire.

There is a strong inclination to interpret the circling monster as Jörmungandr. This "ribbon animal" does have clearly defined limbs, however. Thin interlace tendrils loop around the beasts neck, body and tail in classic Urnes style.

A thesis discussing this type of Urnes style mount, especially a piece found at Sedgeford, is that of Owen, O.A. (1979), A catalogue and re-evaluation of the Urnes style in England.
