After a wild storm, 4 1/2" of horizontal rain in half an hour

Australia

Gale force winds ripped the top from an enormous Red Box Eucalypt tree, the Cockatoos must have been sheltering in the tree and came down with it, and after being thoroughly drenched by 4 1/2" of rain they were in a state of shock, about 8 were killed and some wounded, we rescued another trapped bird 5 days later as we cleared the rubbish, last seen walking off down the paddock. Some were still sitting there the next day. There is one Corella in there, 2nd from the left, back row. The wind and rain had moved on in less than an hour, and we're still clearing fallen trees from the paddocks. Our house was completely surrounded by running water.

Awww - poor things. That must have been frightening for all, both birds and humans! Glad you have born under it okay except for the trees.

Nature's furry. Your home must be well built and well placed to survive without significant damage. Those birds that survived the storm have used all of their energy to get this far, they need some time to recover and for their rain soaked feathers to dry before they can take flight.

So sorry about your trees, Bea. Must have been quite a shock for the poor birds. Hope your home wasn't damaged by all that water.
