Labranche Crypt

In southern Louisiana the water table is very high. Dig down a couple of feet and you'll find water. Many of our dead are buried in above-ground tombs because of this.
Note the name "Labranche" on this crypt. When this German family came to Louisiana their name was Zweig. Twig- Branch in French. Many of the German settlers to early French Louisiana were absorbed into the French culture and changed their names accordingly.
