Checked out a birding spot based on a tip from someone I know. In the half hour I was there, the following birds were seen up close: a trio of gray catbirds, a black-throated green warbler, wilson's warbler, maybe a nashville, a screaming belted kingfisher flew across my field of view from left to right, ruby-throated hummingbird, frogs hopping about and lastly a warbling vireo. It landed maybe 10 feet in front of me at eye-level (not the above photo). Unfortunately my camera was not in hand, so by the time I bent down to pick it up the vireo was gone.
I do not see hummingbirds much so everytime I observe one in the field, it is a shock to the senses how tiny these energy dynamos are. The number of times I have seen wilson's warblers locally can be counted on one hand. This one was only several feet in front of me. It was really weird to see the kingfisher just scream past me.
