Pieces like this created a new style of decorative woodwork, copied often since Otremba's times.
They became a typical 'Hawaiiana'. Otremba came from Germany to Honolulu in year 1882 and opened
his woodworking shop in year 1886. He learned to carve in Italy. Combination of the Italian school
of carving and local artistry lead to this delightful and unmistakably "Hawaiian" type of artwork.
Today original "Otremba's" are priceless collectibles.
