Hawaiian Hall Grand Reopening Weekend, August 8, 2009
Members of the Museum and sponsors have had the opportunity
to visit the Museum in the evening the day before the opening for a
Friday Aug. 7 Evening Preview.
On Saturday August 8 at 9 in the morning the new Hall was opened to the generic public.
Parking was just as complicated. I arrived around 9am and a police office directed me to
the overflow parking at the public school next block. Only a fortunate holder of a parking pass
could park at the museum. Similarly to the Friday event, a time slot ticket was issued for the
Hawaiian Hall. My ticket was for 10:00, and so I had ample time to step by the numerous tents
and exhibits on the grounds. We listened to Hawaiian music, great voice, I wish I knew who the
performer was! To my surprise at least two museums volunteers did not knew either...
Compare the new hall with the Bishop Museum before restoration. It is great now how it looks and how it feels, and I surely do not miss the gruesome whaling exhibition from the 3rd floor, but... I do miss some things:
