Exploring South-East shoreline of Molokai: Churches, Waterfalls, Beaches
South East is the only easy approachable shoreline on Molokai. A nice road leads from the main town of Kaunakakai along lush shoreline with water front properties, all way to the Halawa Valley. The ride resembles North Shore of Oahu, with much less traffic. In the Halawa Valley paved road ends, some adventurers might use 4-wheel drives to venture a bit further and take a peek at the fabled cliffs of the North Shore, which we saw a few times from the air. Along the road you can find two churches constructed by Father Damien. Before he contracted Hansen's disease, he ventured numerous times from Kalaupapa to the highlands of Molokai and founded 4 catholic perishes, of which two are still in function. South shoreline vistas have a beautiful backdrop made by the well visible islands of Lanai and Maui. Especially Maui looks great at dusk with its well lit tows of Kapalua, Kahana and Ka`anapali. We stayed at the Wavecrest, one of the few bigger rental places. It is located around mile 13 past Kaunakakai, main town of Molokai. In this gallery we tried to show the images in the sequence from Kaunakakai to Halawa, where the route ends. |
