This was the last 115 that we managed to shoot in decent light before the train was permanently
rerouted through Edmonton beginning on December 3, 2008. It was a fabulously warm late fall day
and both of us were sitting down crosslegged in the grass about 300 yards apart enjoying the
solitude. A black speck against the sky slowly worked its way towards us, gradually catching our
attention at about the same time. As the speck drew closer it became apparent that this was a golden
eagle of magnificent proportions. The bird flew lazily by maybe thirty feet above us circling
and making eye contact wondering why these two silly humans were in such a strange position
out here in the middle of nowhere. This was the last of many special pleasures other than the
trains that had been afforded us photographing the Drumheller Subdivision.
