renewal

Spring is a time of renewal, and it occurs at many levels...this is the same brown stucco house as seen in the previous image, or what is left of it just a few days later...it is a scene repeated all around the neighbourhood, as older houses are being torn down at a surprising rate, and replaced with new and often larger homes...needless to say the character of the area is rapidly changing too

The McMansions often look so out of place and wreck the character of the neighborhood...I like the repeating orange here!

Very dramatic capture of this change in your neighborhood. Hopefully they are not monster homes that destroy the character of the old neighborhood.

I don't like it when they do that and change everything. Great photojournalism here! :)

Oh no. I am so sad that that lovely house was torn down. I suppose a Vancouver special will take its place (That is what we used to call the enormous houses that replaced the lovely little characterful places). Bigger is NOT better. Terrific documentary shot, particularly when combined with the last one. V

How sad, I liked that little brown house. Bigger isn't always better. Wait till they have to pay the heating bills. Good storying telling image and test. V

It is sad to lose history. Excellent photo in the new modern life genre though. The orange equipment really stands out. V.

what a pity that these small houses are destroyed, it seemed to be still in good condition!
very good picture with vivid colors! V

Great story telling image of the changes going ahead in the neighbourhood, I hope they do keep some of them.

That's a sorry sight...a charming stucco house reduced to rubble...
unfortunately they couldn't be conserved as heritage houses...V

Strong contrast in renewal..good for the spring and bad for the demolition!

Unfortunately the cost of real estate in Vancouver is such that the land is worth so much more than a small house with character and memories.. Well documented David...

Great that you documented the little stucco house before it was torn down. I don't know if it is too late, but perhaps the residents of this are should organize a movement against the destruction of their neighborhood. From what I have seen here in San Diego, the new are rarely as well built as the original structures they replace, and their architectural "style" is never as attractive.
