My great uncle Verne Harrison Carson lived in Gerlach in 1918 and was a cook at the Gerlach Live Stock Co. He was from Kansas and age 28 at the time. I have a couple of black and white photos of him standing with a baby burro. He moved on to San Francisco where he worked for the Dollar Steamship Co. in its heyday. He died at age 46. I believe the water tower was there when he was living in Gerlach. Wonder what other buildings might have been standing at that time.
