One of the few microbats with an audible call, the White striped mastiff bat is rarely captured on fauna surveys as it is a
high-flying bat which rarely ventures below the tree canopy. The regular high pitched chirps are often heard in Eastern Australia
as the bat seeks out beetles and moths. Fortunately, given the large size of this bat, it has a placid nature, as this bat has been
shown to carry Bat Lyssavirus, a potentially fatal rabies-like disease which is very occasionally passed on to people. Denatured
rabies is used to vaccinate against this disease, and anyone who has had rabies shots will know the course of injections of large
