Eastern long-necked turtle

Coolatai NSW

These freshwater turtles (or side-necked terrapins) are common in the waterways of eastern Australia where they feed upon a wide
variety of invertebrates, frogs and plant material. They are often seen moving across roads (not always successfully) during wet
weather. As well as retreating into their shells, if harassed these turtles defend themselves with a pungent odour.
