Mosquito T.III LR412 Memorial

A brief tribute gallery to the ill-fated crew of De Havilland Mosquito T.III LR412. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Mosquito

Polish Flying Officer M Ostoja-Slonski was piloting the aircraft on the 9th February 1944, both he and his navigator Flying Officer Paul Riches DFC were on a flap test and cross country flight, when they collided with the cloud covered summit of Aran Fawddwy (north Wales) at 2,000 feet - both, sadly, were killed.

The aircraft belonged to 540 Squadron at RAF Benson. One of its twin Rolls-Royce Merlin 25 engines was removed from the crash site and placed on a stone plinth at the entrance to Esgair-gawr Farm, near Rhydymain, north Wales, as a permanent memorial to the fallen airmen. A couple of years ago a memorial service was held at the spot in memory of both Flying Officers. (Ref: No Landing Place Vol 2, Edward Doylerush, 1999)
