2005 Calendar

These are the photos I was considering for a calendar of bird photos. I was only able to use 13 of the 15, so I solicited opinions on which two to eliminate.

all good. Red-winged Blackbirds maybe less ideal.

That's a good point about dark images. As much as I like "Blackbird Silhouettes," I agree that it won't work well in a calendar. Thanks for all your help. I've ordered the calendars. --Garrett

I couldn't possibly choose one to eliminate based on photographic quality, but when I have to choose which calendar photo to display for any given month (I have three to chose from), I end up eliminating any dark images. So I guess I'd select the blackbird silhouettes using that criteria. Good luck making a difficult decision.

Thanks for the critiques. I'll eliminate the coots. I'm still not sure about the blackbirds.

Regarding lens choices, I like the 100-400 zoom the best for its portability and versatility. All of my Florida photos and most of my Bosque photos were taken with that lens. The primes may have better image quality and bokeh, but the zoom is much more convenient.

Very difficult question... all are outstanding but the black on black detail of the coots doesn't compare to the detail on the others i.e. oriole etc. For a second choice I would also go with the red wing blackbirds... I like the feel of the dawn shot better than the splash of color in the daylight shot but again both are excellant shots. As they say dealers choice...

Bt the way I've been following your galleries for a long time, which lens do you prefer 300mm, 400mm, or the 100-400 zoom variety?
