We drove up the Quebrada del Toro. We had wondered about getting the train but it wasn't running so off we set in our little car. Our aim was to drive to the viaduct that the Tren de los Nubes crosses, high in the Andes near the border with Chile. We had to wait at the start for a digger to arrive to clear a landslide and off we set, having to drive across water courses down the mountain and further smaller landslides. We got as far as the pass at 4080 metres above sea level when altitude sickness hit us (and particularly me!) perhaps we should have pressed on because it was downhill from there, but I didn't want to. The scenary along the way was amazing though and it was good experience for the driving challenges to come!
