Almost!

When I posted the photo of my school friend **Irene** with a link to a photo of Irene in 1976, *Ron* challenged me to post a similar picture of myself in 1976 - well it was there all the time Ron - it's *here* . I'm the very skinny one on the right (not so slim now!!).

And today there was almost a tragedy because I dropped my camera from standing height onto a pavement (sharp intake of breath). Luckily it was wearing it's little neoprane coat (to stop it getting scratched in my bag) and I think that must have saved the day. Who says the 300d (digital rebel) is not made of sturdy stuff!

And to the photo. I went out to buy a present for a friend and came back with these for myself! Aren't they nice? Looks just like ice but in fact they are glass. I think they are meant to go in the bottom of vases to keep the flowers from flopping around. The background slipped at the vital point and, although I took it again, the dark corner appealed to me. I'm a bit strange i know!! Have a fantastic (sunny?!?) weekend all.

Certainly looks like ice. Amazing lighting especially on the top one. And I love the diagonal in the background - happy accident or not. Glad to hear your camera still works.

Yes it's like glass. Clever stuff. Beautiful composition in red background. Everyday you have a different idea about PAD. I don't know how do you achieve this? It is interesting.

glad your camera is ok.
i knew something wrong was this image....if it was real ice, there would have been some water.
Antonis Sarantos02-Apr-2005 07:54
Perfectly done Gail!!! Try a second one with a smaller aperture and about 1hr shutter speed. This would be very interestng. He he.

This is really neat, Gail. And wow...how wonderful the camera is okay. That would have been awful!

Gail this is great! I really like the "accident" you had with the corner. It makes a very pleasing gradient.

I had a photoshop "accident" that worked to my favor yesterday.

Ahhh, your tricky :) The blue highlights make this very icey looking!
Of course the red background is perfect.

I love this Gail.
In a way its quite a good April 1 piccie - who ever heard of 'warm' ice (red background) ?

Yeah, I had a dream last night that I trod on my zoom lens and it split in half (don't ask...).

I also thought this was ice. I like the red background and the flashes of blue.

Nice shot, glad the 300D survived the drop test!

if you hadn't pointed it out, i'd never have guessed! maybe it'd be more obvious if you do a little dance for an SP like you did in the 1976 photo. :P

i was about to say, you better hurry with that photo before the ice melts! :) it really looks like ice. i really like the red background, and i agree that the dark corner is nice. there's a nice transition from a light red beneath the ice, to a darker red as we approach the top of the photo, until it fades to black. it makes for a gradient background.

Your Rebel must have been damaged in the drop. There's a huge amount of shadow in the upper right hand corner. :)

Nice still.

OOoooo very nice,Gail. I thought they will real ice from the thumb. I like your red background and that black corner adds to the photo! Nice blues, blacks, whites and reds in the ice.
David Clunas01-Apr-2005 21:44
and there's me thinking you spent ages setting this one up, nice shot.
