16 March
Trafalgar Square

A "quick view from the bus shot" today because after work I had to go to school for a governors meeting and I've only just got home. Anyway..... this is Trafalgar Square in the centre of London. I've mentioned before that I've suddenly got a passion to climb on the famous lions and have my photo taken (who knows why!) and you can see two of the four lions on the left of this shot. But the interesting thing (to me anyway) is that the water in the fountain has changed colour. It's usually clear/blue but now it's green - I think it must be in celebration of St Patricks Day - but they might also have taken the opportunity to add some kind of cleaner because the stone above the water now looks scrubbed up. So, there you have it. Oh and it wasn't actually raining at this point but the square had just been hosed down. The Canadians amongst you will notice your national flag (back right) on Canada House - the offices of the Canadian High Commission.

Very nice. The colors of the vehicles and water are such a contrast to the stark buildings and pavement.

It's a very surreal colour!

Great shot. it looks so different with green water. I didnt recognise it as Trafalgar Square and I was there only a few days ago. And according to the internet, the fountain waters were indeed dyed green for St Patricks Day - but on Sunday 13th March oddly.

OK - you want to have your photo taken astride a lion - I'm your 'man' - let me know when you are free and I'll happily do it if I'm in the country!!!

Very nice shot. (Interestingly enough, I also posted a Trafalgar Square photo, but just of one of the fountains).

Cheers!

Very nice, Gail! Love the color and the lack of color!

i like this shot, very nicely composed and the colors are great. the overall picture is predominantly grey and dreary (rainy weather as you've pointed out), so any color stands out (and in this case there's a large body of green, tea-like :P, water).

to my eyes, i immediately see the body of water because of the color. within the water, i see a statue with outstretched arms, and his arm points me to the left of the scene. to the left of the scene, i see a beautiful lion statue facing me. circling the lions is a rail that leads me around and into the photo. at the end of the rail, another lion is facing a street scene, along with another statue.

what i like about this shot is that there's lots to see, and they all seem to come together and lead you through the photo in a very natural and appealing fashion!

Nice shot, the green water really makes it.

The first thing I noticed was the green water! Nice composition.

Very interesting square... I too would want my picture on the lion. Seems you would get a pretty good workout climbing to them. On my monitor the green in the water doesn't look anything like St Patrick green.... must be all debris that washed away. ;) Nice slice the city... I particularly like the sheen on the roadways.

That green is really striking. Looking forward to the lion pic.

Whatever has caused the green-ness, it does make for a different image. Nice.

It's not very usual to see outdoor shots from you
and you can do it very well with them.
I like the colour balance of this image
being colourful or almost b&w from places to places!
