Monarch caterpillar in the "J" position just before forming a chrysalis

Monarch caterpillars form this "J" position for about 24 hours before pupating. Unusually, this was on a common milkweed plant. Typically, caterpillars will crawl away from the milkweed plants and pupate somewhere else.
