Monarch Waystation Project (3 Sub-galleries)

The FWG has been the lucky recipient of a grant to create a large Monarch Butterfly Waystation on our site. We are deeming the entire 15 acres a Waystation, and to this end will be planting hundreds of plants that provide nectar for monarchs (and for other butterflies too), as well as scores of milkweeds, both common and swamp milkweeds, which are the larval food source of monarch caterpillars.

The beautiful and iconic monarch butterfly has been declining, for many reasons, and people throughout its range in North America are doing much to help these majestic butterflies. By so doing, they are also helping other butterflies and pollinating insects, all of whom benefit from bountiful plantings of milkweed and other nectar sources.

We have compiled this gallery showing monarchs nectaring on various flowers and will update when new photos are taken. We also show some photos of monarchs at rest on various plants, but not necessarily nectar plants.

We also have separate galleries showing caterpillars, pupal cases and eggs. And, a separate gallery of milkweed plants.
