I took the day off of work today. Margaret wasn't feeling well, so I took care of her as best I could.
It did allow me to be around when Ian goes to school, so I got to walk him out to the bus after lunch.
I didn't want to copy Jim Larkin's excellent shot if Hailey getting on the bus, so I decided on
getting a portrait of him while we were waiting for the big yellow minivan to show up.
It was cloudy all morning, until the 1/2 hour before he had to leave, and then the sun popped out for a visit.
Our kitchen faces south, and the light coming in the window was just beautiful. So I grabbed the newly
returned 20D, my 85 f/1.8 lens, and my Expodisc and headed upstairs. I made a custom white balance
and set the camera to aperture priority @ f/2.0. It was a pretty good informal test shot to check on
the focus adjustments they made. As you can see, it's damn near spot on. I would have had to mount it
to the tripod to be sure at that range. I have it measured out at 60". The dof at f/2 is just under an inch.
Later on, I'll do some focus chart tests, but for a real world test, for me, it doesn't get any better than this.
