Osprey On The Wing!

I went to Junction City Pond this morning to see eagles. Alas, none were there! But there were a couple ospreys flying overhead as they hunted for prey. Exposure was critical because of the cloudy sky. This is 50% crop so that I could see some detail with my worsening eyes.

It is getting more and more difficult for me to see the image clearly on my computer screen so I have to depend on my wife to check the image out when I have finished processing. I have an appointment with the eye doctor coming up and I am hopeful that he can help. The radiation treatment I had in 2011 has caused a cataract to grow faster, as I had been warned. This is happening to my one good eye, the other is affected by a scar on the retina, so vision isn't clear. So vision is more and more a problem for me. I can't spot little birds like I used to and am not sure if i Got a sharp shot when out on a photo shoot. So far, the doctor has been reluctant to do cataract removal surgery because of the condition of the eye. Perhaps this year he will feel he can do it. I still have a lot of fun shooting pictures but can't guarantee results will be good. Just wanted to forewarn you. :)

a beautiful capture of "flight" and a nice high-key image.

Superb. Wish you luck with your eyes. Can the cataract be removed?

You sure did catch this one perfectly! Lots of great detail on the underside. I haven't seen an osprey all year!

Great in-flight shot Vern. Hope all will be well with your eyes. I can relate to your anxiety about this because I am almost blind in one eye due to a damaged optic nerve. "V"

I think this is a wonderful capture Vern! Tack sharp on the face! V
Hopefully you'll be able to get your eye issues corrected! Nothing worse for a photog than to have their eyesight give them trouble...

What a great shot, Vern ! Extremely sharp, especially for a "bird in motion".
Ed R 21-Jun-2014 01:08
Excellent capture of this creature. Living close to the Columbia, I see osprey often as I cross the I-5 bridge (via bicycle. But, they are rarely close.

What a fine looking bird, Vern. And it looks like you nailed the focus on his face. Nicely done with the white background.
