Photographic Beginnings

Over the years I have built up a collection of books. Some of them take me back to my photographic beginnings. One never outgrows the need to review and keep fresh the very basics. These are a few of the books that are basic but still fun to review. With them is my first camera. Yes, I still have it.

A lot of learning in that group of books , and still having your first camera, whoa...
Paul Milholland01-Feb-2014 22:01
I didn't see "101 Ways to Photograph the Great Blue Heron" in the collection. ;-)
Jack Hoying01-Feb-2014 21:49
Although I've never taken a photo with one, I do have a version of that camera/flash on my shelf.

Is that book on the far, right edge of the photo a classic? Is it still in print? Was your copy signed by the author?
Kuriacose Joseph01-Feb-2014 18:02
I think I could use the one for Dummies.
janescottcumming01-Feb-2014 17:37
What a great still life! I'd like to take a look through some of those books.
Laura Milholland01-Feb-2014 17:23
How fun - love the shot, Vern! Funny how my eye went immediately to the "Identifying and Feeding Birds" book! LOL
Greg W01-Feb-2014 17:07
Hey Vern, that's a great collection of books. I too have a few of those. Though, I am missing the famous Phase photographer Vern Rogers book like you have.
Steve Thuman01-Feb-2014 17:05
Did you start with the one on the left?
Helen Betts01-Feb-2014 16:39
Great scene and capture of it. I love that your first camera is on the shelf! The collection looks sort of like mine; I never seem to have time to read the books, although I love collecting them.
Martin Lamoon01-Feb-2014 15:35
just love that camera.

Walter Otto Koenig01-Feb-2014 15:29
Nice selection of books and so cool you still have your first camera. I still have mine too.
Chris Gibbins01-Feb-2014 15:13
Yep, I have quite a few of those books, too! Not the camera, tho'. My early ones didn't survive, sadly, and latterly I've traded them in when upgrading. Neat shot.

Excellent you have kept this camera! I also had one and learned how to develop B&W film from a grandfather who actually had a darkroom, developing tanks, an enlarger and timer. My copy of this Kodak model did not survive the many moves my parents made. But, one day while driving through Ann Arbor MI on his way home my father stopped at the Argus factory and bought me a refurbished C4, my first 35mm camera. That one I still have sitting on a shelf next to the $5 lightmeter I purchased as soon as I had $5.
Marcia Colelli01-Feb-2014 14:45

That is an oldie, a nice collection of books.
John Ewing01-Feb-2014 08:47
Yay! That a 127? I used to have a Brownie 44b with a flash like that.
joseantonio01-Feb-2014 08:12
Thank you for showing.V.
J Ponces01-Feb-2014 08:09
Ah! The Kodak Camera! How much I wanted to have one! It was too expensive and quite rare in my country! I bought a cheap, plastic 5c camera instead. I was 6 then....
The books.... Well I didn't touch a single photographic book until very late in my career... I wanted to go against the flow...
Bea.01-Feb-2014 07:41
That's a wonderful collection you have there.
John Reynolds LRPS01-Feb-2014 07:19
