My photos are intended to reflect my passion for Latin America. Truth in a child’s eyes. The colors and rhythms of life. Tranquil landscapes. The suffering and harsh injustices.

As a traveler, I have only recently realized photography triggers in me an enhanced engagement with the world, both visually and emotionally. The act of photographing brings a paradoxically simultaneous intimacy and detachment - a sense of connection with the subject while at the same time remaining apart. I sense that I and the world I am shooting are intrinsically interconnected. I aim to shoot from a mind of "interbeing", as inspired by Thicht Nhat Hahn.

Always with me when shooting is a concern about the myriad of issues facing the world. The world is a mysterious intertwining of glorious beauty and horrendous ugliness. I feel the most significant act I can take is to live with compassion. To warmly acknowledge someone and bring a smile to their face seems of tremendous importance. To take a photo which brings awareness, joy, or calm, seems of importance.

I always feel closer to the subjects of my photos when I travel simply and unobtrusively. I stay in cheap local hostels or hotels, eat simple local foods and I aim to be satisfied without the comforts and luxuries which are readily available in my home country. I try to leave light footprints both environmentally and culturally. I hope my main impact is on hearts and minds.
