Impressions

Hello! I still have many unreleased photos from Yemen, so every couple of days I will post whatever I feel like here, experimenting with different styles and techniques.
Note: Given dates are when the pictures were posted, not taken.

23-NOV: Since I'm getting enough feedback, I will try to post a picture everyday,
            but maybe with varying quality and content; you continue telling me which ones
            you like and which ones you don't :)
28-NOV: It hasn't been going too well... I'll slow down.
29-NOV: hmm...
02-DEC: on hiatus for two weeks until the end of my finals -- forget me not
23-DEC: I'm officially back!
27-DEC: I have to send my laptop for service, I hope it won't be long. salam
03-JAN: They still have my laptop but I'm using a 20-inch iMac temporarily :D

hi Osama, although i did not majored in photogfraphy, but general speaking, your images are extremely good. the shots are crisp, composition, and colors. I prefered the images of the people. They are stronger, which I beleive they are showing the sides of yemeni people and culture

I prefer the current PaD hands photo that you have up. I was trying to decide between that and P5215245_edited-2_var.jpg, but I think I like the one you have up. I like how you can see the jagged fingernail on the adult's hand. I also like how the boy's shirt and the front part of his hat contrast with his coat, his face and the hands. The contrast in the lighter black and white photo is too much, and I thought the darker ones were too dull.

Osama -
I don't usually seek out photography -- I've never considered myself to have much of an artistic streak. I've been able to appreciate music, dance and paintings (and in that order) because the beauty they have to offer is so easily accessible. I can easily hear the beat of a song or appreciate the grace and agility of a dancer or see the colors and brush strokes of a painting. Photography has always been more difficult for me because it makes art out of a "reality" that is captured in a way so different from the other art forms. It's so easy to click a button on a camera to take a picture, but because photos capture a reality that everyone *could* see, I always felt that photography left artists more exposed to their own shortcomings as artists than other art forms. I always felt more easily bored by photo exhibits than portraits or paintings. Well anyway, I'm not an art critic, but I say this because your pictures have really move me. The people in your photos look completely vulnerable; to their emotions, to their surroundings, or to whatever story the picture seems to be telling.. They couldn't seem more open and vulnerable if they were physically naked. Professional picture shows like the BBC's "Day in Pictures" that I normally enjoy seem dull and lifeless compared to your powerful shots. You have a wonderful talent, and a clear passion for what you do. Through your camera lens you have allowed me to *see* these people in a way I never would (or could!) have using my own eyes alone. Thank you for sharing with us.
