The Decisive Moment

Rotterdam (Zuid-Holland), Netherlands

For an assignemnt at Fotovakschool.
After viewing a documentary about Henri Cartier-Bresson, is was our task to explore Rotterdam and take photos in the spirit of Cartier-Bresson. His main interests were timing and composition, the subject itself was of less concern.

The weather was very bad, it rained cats and dogs and it was dark. People on the street hurried to shelter. I composed the photo to incorporate triangles: the dark slope vs the light wall and three objects: a square door, the round traffic sign and a moving person in the right location.

you asked...

i like the blurred man, his upward path, and the secret door or window on the right. somehow the pole going all the way up, or its position, doesn't work for me. perhaps a different crop moving it to the left a bit (expanding the right part, if you have more in the original image). i do like the tonal range.

Geweldig. (Ben je met een workshop bezig, of zo?)
