The search for eels was on, as this Grizzly sow and her cubs turned over rocks at low tide looking for their morning meal. I was shooting from a flat bottomed boat, the water was a bit choppy and my tripod was useless....it was challenging, exciting and something I'll always remember. Grizzly facts: Female Grizzlies have 1 to 3 cubs every 3 years or so. Weighing less than a pound, newborn cubs gain weight very fast, due to the high fat content of their mother's milk (about 33 percent fat). As they grow, the cubs increase their weight as much as 1,000 times. Grizzly mothers form deep bonds with their cubs, fiercely protecting them from adult males and other predators, until they are two years old. A Grizzly matures at about 5 years old and they generally live around 25 years. ~ Bears in British Columbia
