They're Back!

Southern Vancouver Island

The flickers are back and it was good to see them again! We surprised this one as it was foraging for food in the undergrowth and it flew up to the tree, fortunately stopping in just the right spot so I could get a shot. Northern Flicker facts: Like most woodpeckers, Northern Flickers drum on objects as a form of communication and territory defence. In such cases, the object is to make as loud a noise as possible, and that’s why woodpeckers sometimes drum on metal objects. ~ All About Birds

I am VERY familiar with northern flickers. They love to drill holes in our post & rail fence - little stinkers! They are beautiful birds, but......
Love this image Racine! V
