Fisgard Lighthouse

Victoria, BC

We visited this site during an end of the year trip down island to Victoria. I've passed here many
times and never stopped to photographed the lighthouse, but then I never thought of shooting it in
B&W before either. Fisgard Lighthouse was built by the British in 1860, when Vancouver Island was
not yet part of Canada. It was the first permanent lighthouse on Canada's west coast and is now
classified as a National Historic Site. The lighthouse is located at the entrance to Esquimalt
harbour and was once a beacon for the British Royal Navy's Pacific Squadron, today Fisgard still
marks home base for the Royal Canadian Navy.

Super composition - I like the prominence of the lighthouse. You've got a great range of tones and textures as well, all round a lovely shot!

Heel bijzonder, mooi!

Lots of layers here, really good level of depth. Although this is the monochrome challenge, this looks like something with some strong sky would have looked great in colour.

Beautiful shot. My wife and I really enjoyed a visit to Vancouver, the Island and the sunshine coast a couple of years ago, I'd love to do it again.
