Steller sea lions gather on this rock, east of northern Vancouver Island, during their northerly winter migration. A moving boat isn't the easiest location to shoot from, but the water was calm and the sea lions weren't moving too much so it all worked out. Steller Sea Lion facts: They gather on haulouts and rookeries when they are not in the water, safe from Orcas and sharks, their natural predators.
