The First Egg

Southern Vancouver Island

Hummingbirds lay the smallest eggs of all birds. They are about the size of a jelly bean and measure less than 1/2 inch long. Hummingbirds usually lay two eggs, several days apart, and a female can lay up to 12 eggs in a lifetime. She incubates the eggs for two to three weeks depending on the weather and how warm it gets.
