Mink with a Meal

Klamath Falls, Oregon

I saw this wild mink at twilight along the shoreline of Klamath Lake. He had just finished hunting for his dinner and looked like he was searching for a quiet place to enjoy his meal. This mink was true to his reputation of being mostly nocturnal --active from dusk to dawn. Nearly all of their time is spent within 100 feet of the water's edge, but they'll occasionally cut across open country from one body of water to another.

Great shot. The reflection of the sky in the eyes really brings the shot to life. I have never even seen one of these. You must have been pretty close to get that with a 300mm lens.

Oh Carl he is sooooo cute! I just want to hug him. Just how did you manage this? Minks are always too fast and in my photos they are always asmall black dot in the distance, usually running away from me.Very nice shot! I love he depth of field and the glint in his eye.
