Grinzing, former municipality in a wine-growing area, since 1891 part of the 19th district of Vienna, large village since 1114, derived from the name "Grinco"; repeatedly destroyed by the Turkish and French armies, in the 19th century became a wine-growing village, popular destination for day-trips and summer holidays, today famous Heuriger village. Grinzing has preserved its small-town character (classified as a historic monument) and is surrounded by vineyards; it is situated in a valley in the foothills of the Vienna Woods.
words above sound nice, but fact is that Grinzing is going down the hill, more and more "Heurige" are closed and become home for the rich. viennese government does not much to stop destroying of the old parts - but one day they all will cry and wonder "why are no tourists coming anymore ???"
