Goslar is a very old German town in the Harz lower mountain range, which was formed in the Devon and Carbon epoch when the region was still underneath the sea.
In the 10th century a knight with name Ramm found silver on the mountain today called Rammelsberg. He named the place and river Gose after his wife. Later, in the 11th century, the Sachsenherzog Heinrich I was at this place for hunting and decided to put a Pfalz there. In the 12th and 13th century more than twenty meetings of the empire were held here. The exploitation of the minerals in the silver, copper and lead mine made the people in the villages rich and soon they build many houses and the villages were forming a town. Since 1340 the Goslar is officially a town. Lateron, in the 15 century new ore was found and from the money made by its exploitations, the citizens build new buildings. Many of the buildings from the 15th century are still visible. So is the historical marketplace. The mine in Goslar was closed 1988 and is today UNESCO World Culture Heritage Site.
