1 - Freemarket

Zoetermeer

Queen's Day is a national holiday in the Netherlands on April 30th. Queen's Day celebrates the birthday of
the Queen of the Netherlands and is supposed to be a day of national unity and "togetherness". The tradition
started on 31 August 1885 on the birthday of Princess Wilhelmina, later Queen Wilhelmina. Since 1949, after
the ascension of Queen Juliana, Queen's Day is Queen Juliana's birthday on April 30th. Although Queen Beatrix's
birthday is on 31 January, she officially celebrates her birthday on 30 April. Queen's Day is known for its
"freemarket" all over the country, where everybody is allowed to sell things in the streets.

This is my view on (part of) the freemarket in my hometown, Zoetermeer.

This Queen's Day ended so sad.
An apparent attack on the Dutch royal family at a parade in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, has failed, but not before
a car drove through a crowd. At least 5 people were killed, others were injured. The vehicle was headed in the
direction of Queen Beatrix before it crashed; the royal family
watched in awe.

For this gallery I will only use my Zuiko 7-14mm lens and only at 7 mm.

Nice springtime scene. So sorry for your nation's tragedy, I've heard and read a lot about it in Polish news.

What a terrible thing for someone to spoil the party! The folks in your hometown though look like they were having fun Maaike!

The footage was indeed sad to see & Queen Beatrix appeared so shaken in her message...so sorry to hear the joy of the celebration was tarnished.

Nice wide shot. So much going on here. I was very sorry to hear the news of this senseless and horrible incident.

A great shot capturing a colourful celebration which
sadly had a tragic ending.

Nice shot, lots of depth. I'm wondering how 7mm on that little camera compares to 7mm on a dSLR? Great shot regardless.

An image of a beautiful day, where everyone was enjoying themselves. A great sense of atmosphere here, and lots of patriotic orange shirts also! What a tragedy that the special day turned into a catastrophe in Apeldoorn. We watched the horrific scene on our news last night.

What a beautiful sunny spring day - sad it had to end the way it did! Wonderful colourful shot Maaike!
