This photo was taken on a low pass over Amundsen-Scott South Pole station from the cockpit of a an LC-130 cargo plane after a 3.5 hour flight from McMurdo Station. The snow runway is at left. The entire station is the cluster of buildings at center, including the skeleton of the now-completed new headquarters. This shot was taken on January 5, 2001.
