M-11, the Wild Duck Cluster in the Scutum star cloud

M-11, also known as the Wild Duck cluster, is in the center of this photo, immersed in the Scutum star cloud of the Milky Way, in the constellation Scutum. At the bottom of the frame, left of center is the small globular cluster NGC 6712. The photo was taken with a Hasselblad 500C, a 350mm f/5.6 lens and E200 film push processed one stop. It is a 40-minute exposure, taken at Harrington Beach State Park on July 5, 2008. Compare this to the next image, taken with a Nikon 500mm f/4 lens and a Nikon D80 digital camera.
